Data Centre Cooling Energy Optimisation at Orange Val-de-Reuil
The Orange data centre in Val-de-Reuil required a highly reliable, secure and energy-efficient cooling solution to support its critical data operations. Carrier delivered a floating High Pressure (HP) system using 14 AquaForce® 30XA 1002 air-cooled chillers, significantly reducing energy consumption while improving performance and equipment longevity.
The Challenge
Orange aimed to:
Reduce energy use and operating costs
Lower environmental impact
Optimise existing cooling equipment without compromising resilience
The project also needed to meet strict Energy Saving Certificate (EEC) funding requirements and comply with Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) standards.
The Solution
Carrier BluEdge implemented an advanced floating HP system that adjusts refrigerant condensation temperature based on outdoor conditions.
This approach:
- Cuts unnecessary energy use
- Improves system efficiency at low to medium load
- Reduces mechanical stress and wear
Carrier also upgraded the control systems to address obsolescence and improve overall machine management.
Key Benefits
The implementation of Carrier’s advanced cooling solution at Orange Val-de-Reuil data centre delivered a range of significant benefits:
Fully funded under the EEC framework
Upgraded controls with long-term obsolescence management
Optimised chiller and system performance
Improved energy efficiency and reduced operating costs
Lower sound levels and enhanced reliability
The Result
Despite a tight delivery deadline, Carrier successfully completed the project before the end of 2022, securing EEC funding and ensuring full PED compliance.
The result is a more efficient, quieter and sustainable cooling system, reinforcing Orange’s commitment to energy performance and operational resilience.
